RUMANIA, HUNGARY, AUSTRIA: bukarest-vienna19645 km, vienna (A)boing 777 from lauda air. melbourne. jakarta. vienna. bukarest. just 21 hours. it is done. the big and quick hop back to europe is fullfilled. lets cycle home.during the scheduled stopover in vienna bine and i are managing checking out one of our bags and checking in another bagagge for bukarest. in less than one hour. there is almost no time for my parents, who i take in my arms after nearly 1 and half years. just a few minutes later we had to say good bye again. but this time, it will take not that much time to see us again. being at home, but nevertheless being far, far away.at international airport otopeni of bukarest we put the - luckily not damaged - bike together. we make us ready to start the final leg of the tourBine. b......

NEPAL: sonauli-kathmandu8910 km, kathmandu (NEPAL)route: sonauli-tansen-pokhara-donauli-mugling-kathmanduas if the wheater knows about political borders. when we are entering nepal, the climate is for the first time after 4 months quite cool and comfortable. also the people, the hotel, the restaurant in sonauli seem to be more friendly and comfortable than in india. in the evening bine and i are clinking bottles of cola and beer (guess who is drinking the beer). our 12th country on our journey is reached. cheers!the siddharta highway up to tansen and pokhara is really beautiful. and a good change to the often boring landscape of india. a small but paved, mountainous road with very little traffic. steep but totally green slopes and valleys around. behind every curve a new scenery appears. i......

INDIA II: bhopal - sonauli8675 km, pokhara (NEPAL)route: bhopal-sanchi-sagar-damoh-katni-umaria-bandhavgarh NP-rewa-allahabad-varanasi-sonauli it is 5 o' clock in the morning. the temperatures are still quite bearable. bine and i are cycling out of town. many pigs are looking for food in the many piles of rubbish along the road. cows try to eat something in the filth. dogs are lying in dirty but cool waterholes. an image which we get often to see when leaving a town. it is very typical for india. also on the third leg through india, bine and i stick to small roads. the quite 'remote' (in terms of an indian) area through madhya pradesh, 'the heart of india', is challenging. the bad roads are even more worse than the awful heat of the indian summer. we make a rest. bine is not well. som......

INDIA I: mumbai - bhopal7513 km, bhopal (INDIA)route: mumbai-alibag-murud-ganpatiphule-ratnagiri-pune-aurangabad-ajanta-jalgaon-bhopal 4 things were dominating after bine and i arrived in mumbai (former bombay) on international airport at 4 o clock in the morning: the hot, sweltry air even at night. second the huge difference between rich and poor (financial buildings beside slums). third, the dominant influence of british architecture and culture. the famous victoria station and the post office built in british-victorian style. the traffic circles, buses, the queues... many things remind me of the british past in india. and fourth - cricket! the current cricket worldchampionship 2003 in south africa makes the indian crazy. when the indian team is playing, the streets are obvious by far......

EGYPT II, SUDAN: cairo-khartoum6205 km, khartoum (SUDAN)route: cairo - ain sukhna - hurghada - port safaga - luxor - aswan - wadi halfa - atbara - khartoum on the road again. AT LAST! after hanging around for nearly five weeks in cairo - due to two visits from home, bines parents brigitte and alfred and my brother kryzzo, and due to changing our planned route, the political situation in jemen and pakistan made it necessary - i was very happy to be on my bike again. our new route now: cycling through egypt, sudan and ethiopia, to reach then bombay-india by plane. the nile valley is closed for individual travellers. tourists have to join police convoys. therefore bine and i took the red sea coast road. the wind and road was good, although there was nothing special to see. hurghada is t......

SYRIA, JORDAN, EGYPT: kilis - cairo5220 km, cairo (EGYPT)-- this is just a small summary of the syria-to-cairo part our tour. some experiences i made during cycling the middle east. more stories and details in german -- SYRIA route: nasib-aleppo-rasafhan-as suknah-palmyra-damaskus-border to jordan near bosra three main differences to turkey i experienced first in syria: on the first three days staying i saw no dogs at all. well, to be correct: no dogs alive. beside the road there were plenty of them, most of them just 5 centimeter thick. and those living dogs we saw later on were very lazy one. nearly none of them started hunting us, most of them even did not get on their feet - just some weak barking from the distance. really disappointing! and second: the size of villages or towns we......

TURKEY III: goereme/cappadocia - kilis3610 km, aleppo (SYRIA)leaving goereme on a steep but short cobblestone road, countless buses and minibuses, full of tourists, are passing by. but when we left the main roads in uerguep going to develin, suddenly all signs of tourists disappeared. just some locals and 2 bikes used the small and quite roads through the mountains from now on.the whole route to the syrian border is covered with a lot of mountains. we reached many, many passes. signs of late autumn are everywhere. the leaves of the trees turned to yellow, brown or red. wonderful! the nights were quite chilly, somtimes even freezing. passing by the about 4000 meter ercires vulcano was terrific. the peak was covered with snow (it is also a wintersport-location) the area round the mountain wa......

TURKEY II: istanbul - goereme/cappadocia3050 km, goereme/cappadociaafter relaxing a few days in istanbul, bine and i began to think about our ongoing route through turkey. because of limited time - on 23rd of november - we will meet my parents in amman (JORDAN) - and because we knew that the route will be very mountainous, we decided not to go to the agean coast. the two main destinations should be pamukkale - at the edge of westanatolia - and cappadocia - famous or bizarre rock-formations and rock-houses. when exploring turkey on our map we realized how big this country is. when we will leave turkey near gaziantep to syria, we travelled just half of turkey!two days later than originally planned (because of strong diarrhoea again) we entered a hyper-modern ferry, which looked like an over-......

TURKEY I: ipsala-istanbul2210 km, istanbul (TR)like at every border before, also at the greek \/ turkish border, all vehicles are forced to take a disinfection bath. law and justice everywhere! after the first few kilometers in turkey, i feel very well. i do not know exactly why, but many things here seem to be familiar to me. nevertheless my last visit was 15 years ago. at that time our whole family travelled to turkey - with an old peugeot 504!and my feelings were not bluffing. when we asked at a gas station for a place to stay, it was not difficult to find one. just behind the gas station. great! in 'real' europe it was sometimes very hard and long-winded to find a proper place to stay for the night.also on the next day we easily found a campsite at another gasstation. although ali and ......

countdown is running...0 km, frankfurt am main / germanyon and on, plannings are going more and more 'serious' every day. i just quit my job and my apartment, begin to organize the move back to vienna, where i want to start the worldtour. i am close buying a new bicycle and many other stuff. and i am - as you see - trying to put up this site on the net. now it s possible for me to write and update reports, news and other things while i am on tour - i just need an internet-connection and a simple web-browser.the start will be on saturday 3rd of august from vienna\/austria - together with bine wenzel from amberg (germany). she has her own platform for making her reports, experiences, photos and infos public--> binewenzel.pedalglobal.net.comments about the site are welcome!have a good time an......
